Commissioned Project
Created for The Technical Unconscious programme in Porto, Portugal.

Works are created using the waste stone of Cooperativa dos Operários Pedreiros; granite and calcarium imported into Porto from colonial locations in the boom years of the company.  The collection of objects appears on first glance as extruded single-plane traditional tool forms, created in granite and brass.  On closer inspection these objects feature the detailing and flourishes reserved for precious materials.

The installation seeks to explore the differences in reality of this shared past; between a collective nostalgia, and the perceptions of the workmen.  Working with traditional stone techniques the works carry the trace of the hand; investigating provenance and authenticity.
