I’m very pleased to have been invited to speak at this years conference along with some fantastic designers, makers and creatives. It looks set to be an inspiring day, curated by Dawn Youll. Whilst there is not a single theme to the day as such, a recurring topic of the conference will be practice models, in particular looking at the journey and the diversity of a practice. The opportunity to live the romantic life of the studio crafts person is not as possible or perhaps desirable in this day and age, meaning that designers/makers have adapted and diversified their practice, creating multifaceted careers that take them in all kinds of directions.
The link between the speakers will be this adaptability and the interesting work they make, but also the practice that they have built up around their objects.
